Heavy persistent rainfall across the North Western and Central provinces prompted authorities to open multiple spill gates at major reservoirs, including the Kala Wewa and Deduru Oya. The resulting water overflow inundated low-lying rail tracks, forcing Sri Lanka Railways to suspend train operations along the Northern Line near Polgahawela. Landslide warnings have also been issued for several hilly districts by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).
