It is reported that the prices of vegetables have increased due to the intervention of middlemen

Wholesale and retail prices of vegetables in the high grown and low grown areas have risen again due to the adverse weather conditions in the Central Highlands.

However, a comparison of the retail prices of vegetables with the prices of the economic centers of Narahenpita, Thambuttegama, Dambulla and Nuwara Eliya reveals that the middlemen increase the price of vegetables.

While a kilo of beans is sold for 400 rupees in Dambulla economic center, a kilo of beans is sold for 510 rupees in Thambuttegama economic centre.

The same beans are sold at Narahenpita Economic Center for 600 rupees.

In Dambulla Economic Center and Thambuttegama Economic Center, a kilo of carrots is sold at a price between 160 and 170 rupees, but in Narahenpita Economic Center, the price of a kilo of carrots has increased to 240 rupees.
